[July 29 Dollar-Yen Scalping Points]
Thank you for your hard work! Now, let's do some USDJPY scalping tonight as well!
First, the Tokyo session overview for today.
Currently, USD/JPY is around 163.40. This morning it started around 163.80, but during the Tokyo session it seems that players are adjusting yen-selling positions ahead of tonight's US FOMC. After 1:30 PM Japan time, it fell to around 163.30.
After that, it rebounded somewhat and the USD/JPY seems set to hand over to the overseas session with about a 40-pip decline from the morning level.
Tonight is the US FOMC. While the market largely expects no change in rates, about 30% has priced in a rate hike, so we may still see some volatility even if kept unchanged. Of course, the biggest volatility would come from a surprise rate hike... but that probably won't happen.
With scenarios split, volatility is likely today. We're going into it with heightened anticipation!
Now, the USD/JPY scalping points for tonight.
● Movements around the London market open
● Movements around the New York market open (Dow opens at 22:30)
● Movements after 27:00 following the US FOMC policy rate and statement
● Movements after 27:30 following the US Powell's press conference

Other notes…
・Be careful of headlines related to Middle East developments
・Be careful of headlines related to government/BOJ interventions

Tonight's “1-minute chart scalping” will target movements around each market open, plus movements after 27:00 following the US FOMC policy rate and statement and after 27:30 following Powell's press conference. For users of the “1-minute scalping club,” following the theory should be fine.
Also, for the short-only “15-minute scalping,” there is flow to adjust yen-selling positions tonight ahead of the US FOMC, so trying it is worth considering. The entry points would be after a small pullback, aiming to sell above the mid-163 level.
And soon the overseas session will start!
Scalping tends to be perceived as having small profit targets, but that is not necessarily the case. By targeting times with relatively high volatility, you can significantly reduce the difficulty of trading.
The time periods I target are around the London market open and around the New York market open.
- London market open time (US daylight saving time 16:00 / US standard time 17:00)
- New York market open time (US daylight saving time 22:00 / US standard time 23:00)
Even immediately after US indicators/events are announced, volatility tends to rise and there are many opportunities. However, in the first few minutes after the announcement, the spread may widen, so the rule is to always enter after it returns to the normal spread.
Always check the US indicators/events schedule in advance. Knowing the times when opportunities will likely arise helps you build profits efficiently.
Also, absolutely avoid positioning immediately before US indicators/events. If the market moves against you, you could be taken to the stop-out in an instant. Careless mistakes are unacceptable, absolutely.
US indicators/events schedules can be checked on the websites of brokerage firms and FX brokers.
Of course, there are many other points, but I’ve talked about the essential points to keep in mind when scalping USD/JPY.
