【July 23 USD/JPY Scalping Points】
Good work today! Let’s go ahead with USD/JPY scalping again tonight!
First, here is today’s Tokyo session overview.
Currently USD/JPY is around 163.05 yen. This morning it started around 163.10 yen, but during the Tokyo session it maintained in the low 163s and traded in a range. With Finance Minister Katayama stating that he will act decisively “as needed” to curb the yen’s depreciation, there hasn’t been a strong market reaction, but it may be weighing a bit on the upside of USD/JPY.
However, with crude oil prices staying high due to US-Iran tensions, the mainstream is still dollar-buying and yen-selling. If you’re trading USD/JPY, it’s efficient to target spike-type sharp declines and pick them up on the long side in small increments. Yesterday also spiked on reports related to the Bank of Japan’s rate hike pace.
USD/JPY is likely to carry over into overseas trading near the morning levels.
Now, the USD/JPY scalping points for tonight.
● Movements around 16:00 around the London market open
● Movements after the 21:30 release of the U.S. Non-Farm Payrolls
● Movements around the 22:00 New York market open (Dow opens at 22:30)

Other notes…
・Be mindful of headlines related to Middle East tensions
・Be mindful of headlines related to government and BOJ interventions

Tonight’s “1-minute chart scalping” will target moves around each market open, plus the moves after the 21:30 U.S. NFP release. For users of the “1-minute scalping club,” handling as per theory should be fine. For mysterious spike-like sharp declines, adopt a strategy of careful long entries. Also, anticipate moves after 21:15 “Europe: ECB policy rate & statement” as well.
Additionally, the “15-minute chart scalping” for shorts is not a favorable setup as the oil price remains high due to US-Iran tensions, continuing the dollar-buying and yen-selling trend. Tonight I plan to focus firmly on the “1-minute chart scalping.”
Now, the overseas session will begin momentarily!
Scalping profits are small, so it’s often assumed there are opportunities 24 hours a day, but that is not the case. By targeting periods with higher volatility, you can significantly reduce the difficulty of trading.
The time windows I target are near the London market open and near the New York market open.
・London market open times (US daylight saving time 16:00 / US standard time 17:00)
・New York market open times (US daylight saving time 22:00 / US standard time 23:00)
Volatility and opportunities also rise immediately after U.S. data releases or events. However, in the minutes immediately after the release, spreads can widen, so the rule is to wait until spreads return to normal before acting.
Please check U.S. data and event schedules in advance. Knowing when opportunities arise helps you build profits efficiently.
Also, avoid positioning immediately before U.S. data or events. If you move against the trend, you can’t even look at it. Careless mistakes are unacceptable, absolutely.
U.S. data and event schedules can be checked on the websites of each brokerage and FX broker.
Of course, there are many other points, but I’ve discussed the essential points you should keep in mind when scalping USD/JPY.
