【Points for USD/JPY scalping on 7/21】
Good work everyone! Let’s do USD/JPY scalping again tonight!
First, here is today’s Tokyo session outlook.
Currently USD/JPY is around 162.50. This morning it started around 162.45, and during the Tokyo session, despite the higher probability of safe-haven dollar buying due to the worsening US-Iran situation over control of the Strait of Hormuz, buying did not advance above the mid-162s and it remained range-bound.
With the peak season of summer holidays making the market seem thin, intervention by the authorities is not entirely out of the question, but… with Minister of Finance Shun’ichi Katayama’s tone staying low, it’s unlikely…
I’d like some trigger to move things…
USD/JPY seems set to hand over to overseas trading around the current morning level.
Now, the points for tonight’s USD/JPY scalping.
● Movements around the 16:00 London market open
● Movements around the 22:00 New York market open (Dow opens at 22:30)

Other notes…
・Keep an eye on headlines related to US rate hikes
・Keep an eye on headlines related to Middle East tensions
・Keep an eye on headlines related to government/BOJ interventions

Tonight’s “1-minute chart scalping” has no major US indicators/events on the schedule, so there isn’t any particular catalyst in the market. The moves around each market open will be the targets. For users of the “1-minute scalping club,” handling as usual should be fine.
Also, the “15-minute scalping” by short-only strategy isn’t a good option tonight, as the worsening US-Iran tensions supporting the dollar makes pushing positions unnecessary. Tonight I’d like to focus on solidly on “1-minute scalping.”
Now, we’ll be starting overseas time soon!
Scalping tends to be believed to have small target ranges with 24 hours of chances, but that’s not the case. By aiming for periods with higher volatility, you can significantly reduce the difficulty of trading.
The times I aim for are around the London market open and around the New York market open.
・London market open time (US daylight saving time around 16:00 / US standard time around 17:00)
・New York market open time (US daylight saving time around 22:00 / US standard time around 23:00)
After US data/events releases, volatility increases and opportunities abound. However, in the minutes immediately after the release, spreads can widen, so the rule is to enter only after they return to normal spread.
Please check the US data/event schedule in advance. Knowing when opportunities will come helps you accumulate profits efficiently.
Also, absolutely avoid positioning right before US data/events. If you go against it, it’s disastrous. You can be taken to your loss limit in an instant. Careless mistakes are a no-go, absolutely.
US data/event schedules can be checked on the websites of each securities/FX broker.
Of course there are other points as well, but I’ve explained the minimum points you should keep in mind when scalping USD/JPY.
