I Started Investing
The Real Reason
My parents' debt,
A Challenge from 7,000 Yen
Hello.
I am BuilderOU (the Builder King)
Mr. Ojun (Ojūn)
This time, I would like to talk about the
real reason I started investing.
I want to share it with you.
“Did you love investing from the start?”
People sometimes ask me that,
The reason I started investing is not
for dreams or asset formation.
Because I needed money.
1. Taking on my parents' debt
as my own was the beginning
of everything
became the trigger to start investing.
At that time, I ended up bearing my parents' debt
by shouldering it with a consumer loan
for them.
My life was nowhere near comfortable.
It certainly wasn’t a situation of plenty.
“If I keep working like this,
will I really be able to repay it?”
That kind of anxiety filled my days continuously.
this event was a turning point that changed my life significantly.
I believe it was the first major turning point.
2. The first investment funds were
7,000 yen
Saved little by little from part-time work,
the precious 7,000 yen.
Even investing,
it wasn’t a noble start.
The initial amount used was,
only7,000 yen.
That 7,000 yen
was not money I could treat lightly,
but funds prepared from a constrained budget,
precious capital.
To be honest,
investment didn’t feel like what I think of as investing
at first.
If you win, you’re happy.
If you lose, you’re frustrated.
And when you lose,
you think, “Next time for sure.”
With that feeling alone,
I kept trading.
3. Win or lose, I didn’t know why
it happened.
Rejoicing in wins,
crashing to the bottom in losses.
That was the cycle.
There were days I happened to win.
Of course,
there were days I lost big.
But the reason was
unknown.
With phrases like that,
I dismissed everything.
Even so, at that time I believed
that this was investing.
4. Because it was a detour, I can tell you now
what I’ve learned
I chased easy profits,
and failed many times.
Beyond debt and info products,
there were paths toward verification, backtesting,
and money management.
You can’t erase failure.
But you can reduce the next failure.
I didn’t have any special talent.
I failed many times,
I felt anxious many times,
and I kept searching for “easy ways to win.”
That’s why I can now say with certainty.
If you only look at wins and losses,
you’ll start to think random wins were skill.
And you’ll repeat the same mistakes again and again.
What’s needed is
not to boast about winning.
What’s needed is to verify whether the results can be reproduced again.
5. What I want to convey on this blog
This blog won’t just write about “I won today.”
What I want to share is
the following.
Why we perform backtests.
Why we emphasize money management.
Why we build programs.
What kinds of mistakes taught us what we learned.
Not only good results, but also
the failed verifications and areas for improvement
will be shared.
I have gone through countless detours myself.
That’s why
I hope that even one person will avoid the same detours,
and nothing would make me happier than that.
