【7/17 USD/JPY Scalping Points】
Good job everyone! Now let's continue with USD/JPY scalping tonight as well!
First, from today’s Tokyo time overview.
Currently USD/JPY is around 162.40. This morning it started around 162.35, and during Tokyo time there were glimpses of risk-off buying of the dollar as the U.S. military began attacks on Iran’s infrastructure and tensions in the Hormuz Strait were expected to intensify, but overall momentum remained limited. Still, the price range has been about 10 pips up and down.. interesting.
USD/JPY is likely to hand over to overseas session at roughly the same level as in the morning.
Yesterday’s U.S. CPI and PPI came in below expectations, and the Nikkei plunged today. Normally, USD/JPY would fall as well, but it did not! It seems the hawkish Joyce Powell and our own Takashina’s solid stance are firmly supporting USD/JPY. If this balance slightly breaks, I feel it could move sharply.. Perhaps a genuine forex intervention could be the trigger.
Now, for tonight’s USD/JPY scalping points.
● Moves around the 16:00 London market open
● Moves after the 21:30 U.S. housing starts release
● Moves around the 22:00 New York market open ( Dow opens at 22:30 )
● Moves after the 23:00 U.S. University of Michigan Consumer Confidence Index release

Other notes..
・Be cautious of headlines related to U.S. rate hikes
・Be cautious of headlines related to Middle East tensions
・Be cautious of headlines related to government and Bank of Japan interventions

Tonight’s “1-minute chart scalping” targets moves around each market open, and although not highly watched, the movements after the 21:30 U.S. housing starts and 23:00 U.S. Michigan Consumer Confidence release may be the key opportunities. For users of the “1-minute scalping club,” handling according to the theory should be fine.
Also, the short-only “15-minute chart scalping” suggests the USD/JPY upside may be restrained, and there could be selling pressure due to weekend factors, so it’s worth aiming for. The entry point would be when you can sell around the 162 mid-level.
Now the overseas session will start soon!
Since scalping targets small profit ranges, it is a common misconception that there are 24-hour opportunities, but that is not true. By aiming for periods with relatively high volatility, you can significantly lower the difficulty of trading.
The time periods I target are around the London market open and around the New York market open.
・London market open time (16:00 US daylight time / 17:00 US standard time)
・New York market open time (22:00 US daylight time / 23:00 US standard time)
After U.S. indicators and event releases, volatility often rises and many opportunities arise. However, in the minutes immediately after the release, spreads may widen, so the rule is to wait for normal spreads before entering a trade.
Please always check the U.S. indicators and events schedule in advance. Knowing when opportunities will come helps to accumulate profits efficiently.
Also, absolutely avoid positioning immediately before U.S. indicators/events. If you go against it, you’ll be severely affected. A careless mistake is unacceptable, absolutely.
U.S. indicators/events schedules can be checked on the websites of each securities or FX broker.
Of course there are many other points besides the three above, but I’ve discussed the minimum points you should hold when scalping USD/JPY.
