[7/16 USD/JPY Scalping Points]
Thank you for your hard work! Now, let's do USD/JPY scalping again tonight!
First, the Tokyo time overview for today.
Currently USD/JPY is around 162.05. This morning it started around 162.15, but during Tokyo time, expectations for a rate hike in this month’s U.S. FOMC have nearly disappeared, so upside has been a bit capped and it has traded with little movement, not breaking 162 yet.
Following the U.S. CPI, last night’s U.S. PPI also came in below expectations, but the expectation of a U.S. rate hike this year remains and uncertainties in Middle East situation are supporting the dollar, keeping volatility a bit low. USD/JPY is likely to hand over to overseas session around roughly the same level as in the morning.
In the overseas session later, I hope USD/JPY breaks below 162...
Now, the points for tonight’s USD/JPY scalping.
● Movements around the London market open near 16:00
● Movements after the U.S. jobless claims, U.S. retail sales, and U.S. Philadelphia Fed Business Conditions Index at 21:30
● Movements around the New York market open near 22:00 (Dow opens at 22:30)
● Movements after the U.S. existing home sales pending data at 23:00

Other notes...
・Pay attention to headlines related to U.S. rate hikes
・Pay attention to headlines related to Middle East situation

Tonight’s “1-minute scalping” targets the movements around market opens and the 21:30 “U.S. initial jobless claims,” “U.S. retail sales,” “U.S. Philadelphia Fed index” and 23:00 “U.S. existing home sales pending” releases. For users of the “1-minute scalping club,” follow standard theory and you’ll be fine.
Also, the short-only “15-minute scalping” approach, while the U.S. rate hike expectations have mostly faded this month, remains buoyed by expectations of a rate hike later this year and Middle East uncertainty, so there’s no need to force positions. Tonight I’ll focus solidly on “1-minute scalping.”
Now, the overseas session will start shortly!
Scalping tends to be thought that there are constant 24-hour opportunities because the potential profit per trade is small, but that’s not the case. By aiming at periods with relatively high volatility, you can significantly reduce trading difficulty.
The time frames I target are around the London market open and around the New York market open.
・London market open time (UTC-4 during daylight saving / UTC-5 during standard time)
・New York market open time (UTC-4 during daylight saving / UTC-5 during standard time)
Even immediately after U.S. data/events releases, volatility increases and opportunities are many. However, in the minutes right after the release, spreads can widen, so the rule is to enter only after the spread returns to normal.
Always check the U.S. data/event schedule in advance on the websites of brokerages and FX providers. Knowing the times when opportunities will come allows you to accumulate profits efficiently.
Also, absolutely avoid positioning immediately before U.S. data/events releases. If you go against them, you’ll be wiped out in an instant. Careless mistakes are unacceptable, absolutely.
The U.S. data/event schedules can be checked on each broker’s or FX provider’s website.
Of course, there are many other points as well, but I’ve discussed the minimum points you should understand when scalping USD/JPY.
