Because I can defend, I will win
Surviving Traders Prioritize Not Losing Over How to Grow
Those who first think about “how not to lose” will remain until the end.
Most people starting trading think about “how to grow.” Which method wins, where to enter to capture, how to increase assets quickly. All their attention is directed toward “growing.”
But traders who have lasted a long time think the opposite. They start by“how not to lose”. Growth comes afterward. This difference in order determines whether you survive or are expelled.
The money management and risk management explained in this series are all techniques to “not lose.” The 2% rule, lot calculations, daily loss limits—all are systems to “not lose.” They are not for increasing gains.
Why prioritize “not losing”?
The reason lies in the nature of compounding discussed in Episode 6.Large losses make recovery extremely difficult. If you lose 50%, you need 100% profit just to break even. Therefore, you must avoid large losses at all costs.
Another reason is that surviving is the fundamental prerequisite. If you disappear from the market, no matter how excellent a method or how many opportunities, they mean nothing. If you stay alive, opportunities will come again and again.
“Growing” is an offensive move, while “not losing” is a defensive one. Offense depends on market conditions, but defense you can control.Prioritize what you can control—this is the iron rule of any long-term struggle.
・Growing → Depends on the market. You cannot control it
・Not losing → Depends on the rules. You can control it
Rather than betting on what you cannot control,
focus on what you can control. That is the survival strategy.
