【5/29 Dollar-Yen Scalping Points】
Good work everyone! Let’s do some USD/JPY scalping again tonight!
First, from today’s Tokyo session overview.
Currently, the USD/JPY is around 159.25. This morning it started around 159.20, but during the Tokyo session it’s been range-bound as traders awaited headlines on U.S.-Iran peace talks. Volatility remains quite limited today as well.
There were reports last night that “the U.S. and Iran have reached an accord, but President Trump’s final approval is required” and that “the memo between the U.S. and Iran is expected to include a ceasefire extension or start of nuclear negotiations,” but what Trump will say next is unclear…?
USD/JPY is likely to hand over to overseas time at roughly the same level as in the morning.
Now, tonight’s USD/JPY scalping points.
● Movements near the 16:00 London market open
● Movements near the 22:00 New York market open (Dow open at 22:30)

Other notes…
・ At 19:00, release of currency intervention results for 4/28 to 5/27
・During trading, remarks by dignitaries may occur (22:10 remarks by Fed Vice Chair Lael Bowman; 22:15 remarks by William Dudley: President of the Philadelphia Fed)
・Be careful of headlines related to U.S.-Iran
・Be careful of headlines related to BoJ currency intervention

Tonight’s “1-minute chart scalping” has high attention as there are no major U.S. indicators or events scheduled and no particular market-moving material, so the moves around each market open will be the target. For users of the “1-minute scalping club,” handling according to theory should be fine. We have a bit of expectation for the 22:10 and 22:15 remarks: “Bowman, Fed Vice Chair’s remarks” and “Paulson: President of the Philadelphia Fed.”
Also, the short-only “15-minute chart scalping” may target potential dollar-selling due to weekend risk-driven position adjustments in response to last night’s U.S.-Iran accord headlines. The trigger would be when you can sell above around 159 yen.
Now we’ll soon start in overseas time!
Because scalping aims for small profit margins, it’s easy to think there are 24-hour opportunities, but that’s not the case. By targeting time periods with relatively high volatility, you can dramatically reduce the difficulty of trading.
The time periods I target are near the London market open and near the New York market open.
・London market open time (16:00 during U.S. daylight saving time / 17:00 during U.S. standard time)
・New York market open time (22:00 during U.S. daylight saving time / 23:00 during U.S. standard time)
Even immediately after U.S. data or events, volatility rises and opportunities increase. However, in the minutes right after the announcement, spreads can widen, so you should always enter after the spreads return to normal levels.
Always check the U.S. data and event schedule in advance. Knowing when opportunities will arise helps you accumulate profits efficiently.
Also, absolutely avoid positioning immediately before U.S. data or events. If you go against it, you’ll be in trouble in an instant. Careless mistakes are not acceptable, absolutely not.
U.S. data and event schedules can be checked on the websites of each brokerage and FX provider.
Of course there are many other points as well, but I’ve outlined the essential points to keep in mind when scalping USD/JPY.
