EA Recommendation 13: Running an EA on a VPS 24 hours a day — explaining why a VPS is needed from a developer’s perspective
Good morning everyone. I am Renmi.
This is the 13th article. This time I will talk about "VPS." It is an unavoidable topic if you want to operate EAs seriously.
Here is the previous article.

What is VPS
A VPS (Virtual Private Server) is a service that rents out a server that runs continuously on the Internet.
When you install MT4 on your own PC and run an EA, if you turn off the PC, the EA also stops. Since EAs need to monitor the market 24 hours to realize their full potential, you either keep your PC running all the time or use a VPS—either is necessary.
Why not on your own PC
Technically, you can run it on your own PC. However, there are several practical problems.
Power and network connection issues: Power outages, Internet failures, or PC freezes can cause the EA to stop suddenly. If it stops while you have a position, there is a risk that stop-loss may not function properly.
Load on the PC: Keeping MT4 running 24 hours puts cumulative stress on the PC. The risk of overheating and freezes increases.
Lifestyle constraints: There are many inconvenient moments when you cannot shut down the PC.
VPS solves all of these problems.
How to choose a VPS
There are three key points to look at when choosing a VPS.
① Location (server location)
The closer the VPS server physically is to the MT4 server, the lower the communication latency. This can affect the results for scalping-type EAs.
② Specs
If you run multiple MT4s, choose a plan with plenty of CPU and memory. For 1–2 instances, minimum specs are sufficient.
③ Price
A plan around 1,000–3,000 yen per month is often enough. You can choose within what you can allocate from the profits of EA operation.
Setup flow
The flow after renting a VPS is simple.
Install Windows on the VPS (available on many VPS services)
Connect to the VPS via Remote Desktop
Install MT4
Configure the EA and start it
Once set up, the VPS will run automatically 24 hours a day.
About my trading environment
I myself also use a VPS to run GTX. The real-trade performance published on Realtrade is from an EA running on a VPS. I believe that operating in a stable environment contributes to the reliability of long-term performance data.

Summary
To operate EAs seriously, VPS is necessary. On your own PC, there are risks of power failure and freezes
VPS selection should be judged by three factors: location, specs, and price
A suitable environment can be achieved with a monthly cost of around 1,000–3,000 yen
Once configured, you can leave it as is and have it run 24 hours
You might think, "VPS seems difficult," but once you overcome the initial setup, it's comfortable. Please consider it when you are ready to scale up EA operations.
Well then, until next time!
