【Points for USD/JPY scalping on 5/13】
Good work today! Alright, let’s do USD/JPY scalping again tonight!
First, from today’s Tokyo session overview.
Currently, USD/JPY is around the 157.70 level. This morning it started around 157.60, but during the Tokyo session there is a selling pressure on the yen due to high crude oil prices and concerns about fiscal deterioration, and a cautious mood regarding the government and Bank of Japan’s forex intervention preventing any movement.
It remained rangebound throughout, likely handing over to the overseas session near the morning levels. The upcoming China-U.S. summit tomorrow might also contribute to the waiting mood.
Yesterday there were moves that appeared to be intervention by the government and BOJ, but they retraced within a few hours. They say interventions against fundamentals are meaningless... and yesterday was exactly that.
Now, the points for tonight’s USD/JPY scalping.
● Movements around the 16:00 London market open
● Movements after the 21:30 U.S. PPI release
● Movements around the 22:00 New York market open (Dow opens at 22:30)

Other notes …
・Tomorrow, China-U.S. summit
・Be mindful of headlines related to U.S.-Iran relations
・Be mindful of headlines related to BOJ forex intervention

Tonight’s “1-minute chart scalping” will target moves around market opens plus the moves after the 21:30 U.S. PPI release. For users of the “1-minute scalping club,” handling according to theory should be fine.
Also, the short-only “15-minute scalping” continues to show yen selling without stopping despite intervention warnings, so it’s not a situation to push positions aggressively. Tonight I’d rather focus on the conservative approach with “1-minute scalping.”
With that, overseas time is about to start!
Because the potential profit per trade in scalping is small, people often think there are 24-hour opportunities, but that’s not the case. By targeting periods with relatively high volatility, you can significantly reduce the difficulty of trading.
The timeframes I’m targeting are around the London market open and the New York market open.
・London market open times (UTC- summer: 16:00 / winter: 17:00)
・New York market open times (UTC- summer: 22:00 / winter: 23:00)
Even immediately after U.S. data or events, volatility rises and there are more opportunities. However, in the minutes right after the release, the spread may widen, so the rule is to act only after it returns to the normal spread.
Always check the U.S. data and event schedules in advance. Knowing when opportunities will arise helps you accumulate profits efficiently.
Also, please absolutely avoid positioning right before U.S. data or event releases. If you’re against the trend, you won’t be able to win. You can be taken to your loss line in an instant. Carelessness is not acceptable, absolutely.
U.S. data and event schedules can be checked on the websites of各 securities companies and FX brokers.
Of course there are many other points as well, but I’ve covered the essential points to keep in mind when scalping USD/JPY.
