【4/29 Dollar-Yen Scalping Points】
Good job everyone! Alright, let's do some Dollar-Yen scalping again tonight!
First, here is today's Tokyo session overview.
Currently, the Dollar-Yen is around 159.70. This morning it started around 159.50, but during Tokyo hours it was a holiday with little movement, staying in the high range from last night’s overseas session. It seems it will hand over to the overseas session at roughly the same level as in the morning.
At yesterday’s Ueda Bank of Japan Governor press conference, although the stance on rate hikes hasn’t changed, he mentioned that there is a possibility that prices could match higher inflation with data a little further ahead than June, which has slightly reduced expectations for a rate hike at the next meeting and strengthened the yen’s weakness trend.
The US-Iran situation that had been moving the market has made no progress, so tonight focus will be on the US FOMC.
Now, here are tonight’s Dollar-Yen scalping points.
● Movements around the London market open around 16:00
● Movements after the 21:30 announcements of “US Durable Goods Orders” and “US Housing Starts”
● Movements around the New York market open (Dow opens at 22:30)
● Movements after the 27:00 “US FOMC policy rate & statement”
● Movements after the 27:30 “Press conference by Fed Chair Jerome Powell”

Other notes…
・Be cautious of headlines related to US-Iran situation
・Be cautious of headlines related to BOJ currency intervention

Tonight’s “1-minute scalping” will target movements around each market open plus the moves after the 21:30 US data, which could be key. For users of the “1-minute scalping club,” handling according to theory should be fine. Also, 27:00 “US FOMC policy rate & statement” and 27:30 “Powell’s press conference” are on the agenda, and of course if you can stay awake you’ll aim for them. Since there’s no progress in US-Iran situation, the big moves will likely occur here.
Also, for the short-only “15-minute scalping,” if the US-Iran situation remains stalemated, there could be position-adjusting selling ahead of the FOMC, so trying that could also be worth it. The trigger would be when you can sell at levels above the mid-159s.
Now the overseas session will start shortly!
Because the profit per trade in scalping is small, it’s easy to assume there are opportunities 24 hours a day, but that’s not the case. By targeting times with relatively high volatility, you can significantly reduce the difficulty of trading.
The time windows I target are around the London market open and around the New York market open.
・London market open time (16:00 in US Daylight Time / 17:00 in US Standard Time)
・New York market open time (22:00 in US Daylight Time / 23:00 in US Standard Time)
Even immediately after US data or events, volatility rises and there are many opportunities. However, in the minutes right after the announcement, spreads can widen, so it’s essential to trade after they return to normal spreads.
Please always check the US data and events schedule in advance. Knowing the times when opportunities will come allows you to accumulate profits efficiently.
Also, absolutely avoid positioning immediately before US data or events. If you go against the trend, you’ll be wiped out in an instant. Careless mistakes are unacceptable, absolutely.
US data and event schedules can be checked on the websites of each brokerage or FX dealer.
Of course, there are many other points as well, but here I’ve covered the essential points you should keep in mind when scalping the dollar-yen.
