【3/26 Dollar-Yen Scalp Points】
Good job everyone! Let’s go ahead and scalp dollar-yen tonight as well!
First, here is today's Tokyo session overview.
Currently, the dollar-yen is at around 159.30. This morning it started around 158.35, but during the Tokyo session last night the overseas markets remained dollar-buying biased due to Middle East tensions, leaving it range-bound near the high area.
Due to the uncertainty in Middle East affairs, dollar buying tends to come in, but as it approaches the 160 level, selling tends to appear. Oil prices also have limited upside, and I don’t think there’s much of a mood to test the 160 level… or something like that.
It looks like it will likely hand off to the overseas session at roughly morning levels.
Now, the points for tonight’s dollar-yen scalp.
● Movements around the London market open near 16:00
● Movements after the US Initial Jobless Claims release at 21:30
● Movements around the New York market open near 22:00 (Dow opens at 22:30)
—–
Other notes…
・Pay attention to headlines related to Middle East tensions
・Pay attention to headlines related to BOJ FX intervention
—–
Tonight’s “1-minute scalp” will target movements near market opens plus moves after the 21:30 release of the US Initial Jobless Claims. For users of the “1-minute scalp club,” proceed as per theory without issue. Also, headlines related to Middle East tensions require caution tonight as well.
Additionally, the “15-minute scalp” for short-term trades tends to favor selling as 160 remains within reach, so it might be worth aiming for. The setup would be waiting for a slight pullback and selling around the mid-159 range.
Thank you again for tonight!
Scalping profits are small, so it’s easy to think there are 24-hour opportunities, but that isn’t the case. Targeting periods with higher volatility can dramatically reduce the difficulty of trading.
The timeframes I target are around the London market open and around the New York market open.
・London market open time (16:00 US daylight time / 17:00 US standard time)
・New York market open time (22:00 US daylight time / 23:00 US standard time)
Volatility spikes right after US indicators/events also create many opportunities. However, in the first few minutes after a release, the spread may widen, so the rule is to act only after it returns to the normal spread.
Please always check the US indicators/events schedule in advance. Knowing when opportunities will come allows you to build profits efficiently.
Also, absolutely avoid positioning immediately before US indicators/events release. If you go against the trend, it can be disastrous. It can wipe out your stop-loss in an instant. Carelessness is not acceptable.
US indicators/events schedules can be checked on the websites of brokers and FX providers.
Of course, there are many other points as well, but I’ve covered the essential points you should keep in mind when scalping USD/JPY.
