Why I completely discarded the Sell function from Gold EA. What is the overwhelming advantage of a Buy-focused logic?
Currently, I am developing the EA "Sho-Kin-Ryu" and publicly showing real-time operation daily on YouTube live.
This EA, literally,“only entries in the Buy direction,” a completely one-way specialized system.
While many EA developers promote a “hedge logic” that can target profits both in buy and sell, why did I decide to completely abandon the option of "sell"?
This time, I will discuss the development process and the overwhelming advantage of a Buy-focused approach in the gold market.
The fatal risk of “hedging”
Gold (XAUUSD) exhibits volatility far greater than forex, and once a trend starts, it can move thousands of pips in one direction for a long period.
With this trait in mind, what happens if you run a typical “hedged martingale EA”?

In ranging markets, you can accumulate small profits both from buying and selling, appearing highly effective. However, when a massive trend occurs, the position on the side that goes against the trend (e.g., a “sell” position during a sharp rally) starts to incur heavy losses.
Then, caught in gold’s characteristic “one-way move with no natural retracement” it eventually becomes unsustainable and the account capital collapses in short order.
I've suffered from this “hedge trap” many times in the past. No matter how excellent a filter, against gold’s crazy trends, counter-trend positions were always sitting on a bomb.
History proves the absolute fact that “Gold goes up”
So I returned to basics and extensively re-examined the historical charts of gold over a long period.
What I confirmed again is“Gold, in the long term, overwhelmingly has an upward bias as an asset”.
Global inflation, geopolitical risks, and demand as a safe asset during crises… All of these factors collectively push gold’s price upward over the medium to long term.
In other words, in the gold market,“buying on dips (price retracements) is the most rational strategy, avoiding major market swings and providing the safest, most advantageous trading method.”.
The ultimate simplicity and strength obtained by discarding selling
Having reached this conclusion, I removed all Sell entry logic from the EA being developed.
To discard selling means abandoning small profits in a downtrend. It may seem like a loss of opportunity at first glance. However, discarding selling has refined the EA’s logic to the extreme.
“Sho-Kin-Ryu” only fires the initial buy at the exact moment RSI reaches oversold levels.
Furthermore, it sets martingale steps at an optimal interval aligned with market volatility (ATR), transforming reversal power into pure profit.
Because it does not hold any short positions, the risk of being swept into a sudden upward trend and going bankrupt is zero.
On the contrary, when an uptrend occurs, that is precisely Sho-Kin-Ryu’s true forte, delivering overwhelming profits like a dragon ascending to the heavens.
11 years of harsh backtesting prove the power of Buy-focused strategy
How powerful is this “Buy-focused × premium dip-buying logic.”
It is proven by more than 11 years of backtesting results from 2015 to the present (2026).
- Test period：2015.01.01 〜 2026.03.14(11 years 2 months)
- Number of trades：22,189 trades
- Win rate： 84.28 %
- Profit Factor (PF)： 1.93
This long period includes many historical crashes, including the COVID crash. Yet this overwhelming performance was achieved precisely because of Buy-focused logic that does not fight the major market trends.
No gimmicks.
