【3/18 Dollar/Yen Scalping Points】
Good work everyone! Let’s dive into tonight’s Dollar/Yen scalping as well.
First, from today’s Tokyo session overview.
Currently, the USD/JPY is around 158.85. This morning it started around 159.00, but during the Tokyo session there was no notable movement from last night’s New York level and it remained range-bound.
There is a slight tendency to sell dollars due to expectations for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, but tonight we are awaiting the FOMC decision and mood looks cautious. It seems the overseas session will hand over almost at morning levels.
Now, the points for tonight’s USD/JPY scalping.
● Movements near the London market open around 16:00
● Movements after the US PPI release at 21:30
● Movements near the New York market open (Dow opens at 22:30)
● Movements after the US FOMC rate decision & statement at 27:00
● Movements after Chairman Powell’s press conference at 27:30

Other notes ..
・Be mindful of headlines related to Middle East tensions
・Be mindful of headlines related to BoJ FX intervention

Tonight’s “1-minute time frame scalping” will target movements around each market open plus the moves after the 21:30 US PPI release. For users of the “1-Minute Scalping Club”, handling as per theory should be fine. Also, the 27:00 “US FOMC rate decision & statement” and 27:30 “Powell’s press conference” are of course targets if you’re awake. I plan to stay up and aim for them..
Also, the “15-minute scalping” which focuses on short trades, may see selling pressure as markets adjust ahead of Hormuz reopening and the FOMC event. It might be worth aiming for around the 159 yen level as a setup.
Now the overseas session is about to start!
Scalping benefits from targeting smaller profit margins because there are perceived 24-hour opportunities, but that is not the case. By targeting periods with higher volatility, you can dramatically reduce the difficulty of trading.
The time periods I target are near the London market open and near the New York market open.
・London market open time (16:00 US夏時間 / 17:00 US冬時間)
・New York market open time (22:00 US夏時間 / 23:00 US冬時間)
Even right after US indicators/events are released, volatility rises and opportunities increase. However, in the few minutes immediately after the release, spreads can widen, so the rule is to wait for spreads to return to normal before trading.
Always check the US indicators/events schedule beforehand. Knowing when opportunities are likely to arise helps you accumulate profits efficiently.
Also, absolutely avoid positioning right before US indicators/events. If you go against it, it’s hard to recover. Your loss-cutting line can be reached in an instant. Carelessness is unacceptable, absolutely.
US indicators/events schedules can be checked on the websites of securities firms and FX brokers.
Of course there are many other points as well, but I’ve talked about the essential points to keep in mind when scalping the dollar/yen.
