【3/17 Dollar/Yen Scalping Points】
Good work everyone! Let’s go with dollar/yen scalping again tonight!
First, the Tokyo time overview for today.
Currently, the USD/JPY is around 159.45. This morning it started around 159.00, but during Tokyo time crude oil (WTI) moved up in after-hours trading, leading to a broad dollar rally.
USD/JPY is currently hovering near today’s high, but will European and London participants continue buying afterwards? The 160 yen round number is a zone where the Bank of Japan may intervene with real ammunition, so caution is needed.
From the morning level, it’s about a 45-pip rise, likely handing over to the overseas session.
Now, the points for tonight’s USD/JPY scalping.
● Movements around the London market open at 16:00
● Movements around the New York market open at 22:00 (Dow opens at 22:30)
● Movements after the release of the US existing home sales data
—–
Other notes..
• Be cautious of headlines related to Middle East tensions
• Be cautious of headlines related to BoJFX intervention

Tonight’s “1-minute chart scalping” will likely target movements near each market open plus the moves after the 23:00 US existing home sales release. Users of the “1-minute scalping club” should follow the theory and manage it accordingly. Also, note headlines related to Middle East tensions tonight as well.
Additionally, the “15-minute scalping” focused on shorts typically benefits from safe-haven dollar buying due to Middle East concerns; however, around the 160 yen level today there is a high chance of position-adjusting selling due to expected intervention, so trying it is worth considering. The setup could be when you can sell around the mid-159s, perhaps.
Now, overseas markets will begin shortly!
Because scalping aims for small profit margins, it is often thought there are 24-hour opportunities, but that’s not the case. By targeting periods with relatively high volatility, you can significantly reduce the difficulty of trading.
The times I target are around the London market open and around the New York market open.
• London market open time (16:00 US daylight time / 17:00 US standard time)
• New York market open time (22:00 US daylight time / 23:00 US standard time)
There is still high volatility and many opportunities immediately after US data/events are released. However, for the first few minutes after the release, spreads can widen, so the rule is to enter only after they return to normal spreads.
Always check the US data/event schedule in advance. Knowing the timing of when opportunities will arise helps you accumulate profits more efficiently.
Also, absolutely avoid positioning immediately before US data/events. If you go against the trend, you’ll be in trouble in an instant, your stop is knocked out. Carelessness is not allowed.
US data/event schedules can be checked on the websites of each brokerage or FX provider.
Of course there are other points as well, but I’ve discussed the essential points you should keep in mind when scalping USD/JPY.
