[3/16 Dollar-Yen Scalping Points]
Good job today! Let’s do some Dollar-Yen scalping again tonight!
First, here is today's Tokyo session overview.
Currently, the USD/JPY is around 159.25. This morning it started around 159.50, but during the Tokyo session, remarks by Finance Minister Katayama that they will take a firm stance including decisive measures regarding the currency, and a pullback after WTI crude futures briefly exceeded $100 a barrel, caused USD/JPY to hover a bit lower.
Nevertheless, concerns over the Strait of Hormuz remain persistent, and we cannot see a clear bottom. Tonight’s market is likely to remain unstable, swayed by Middle East tensions and oil prices.
From the early morning level, expect roughly a 25-pip drop as we pass the baton to overseas hours.
Now, here are the USD/JPY scalping points for tonight.
● Movements around the London market open (around 16:00 UTC-4 in summer time / 17:00 UTC-5 in winter time in the US)
● Movements after the US NY Fed Manufacturing Index release
● Movements around the New York market open (Dow opens at 22:30)
—–
Other notes…
・Be careful about headlines related to Middle East tensions
・Be careful about headlines related to BOJ currency intervention
—–
Tonight’s “1-minute scalping” will target movements around each market open plus the moves after the 21:30 US NY Fed Manufacturing Index release. For users of the “1-Minute Scalping Club,” follow the rules and you should be fine. Also, caution is needed regarding headlines tied to Middle East tensions tonight.
In addition, the “15-minute scalping” which focuses on shorts may see dollar buying in times of geopolitical risk, but due to expectations of intervention and potential position adjustments, there may be selling opportunities as well. The entry point would be when you can sell around the mid-159 yen level, perhaps.
Thanks in advance for tonight!
Because scalping aims for small profit margins, it is often assumed there are 24-hour opportunities, but that is not the case. By targeting periods of higher volatility, you can greatly reduce trading difficulty.
I aim for around the London market open and around the New York market open.
• London market open time (16:00 in US daylight time / 17:00 in US standard time)
• New York market open time (22:00 in US daylight time / 23:00 in US standard time)
Even immediately after US indicators/events release, volatility rises and opportunities increase. However, in the first few minutes after the release, spreads can widen, so the rule is to enter after they return to normal spreads.
Please check the US indicators/events schedule in advance. Knowing when opportunities come allows you to accumulate profits efficiently.
Also, absolutely avoid positioning just before US indicators/events releases. If you go against the trend, you’ll be wiped out in an instant. Careless mistakes are unacceptable, absolutely.
US indicators/events schedules can be checked on the websites of each brokerage/FX provider.
Of course, there are other points as well, but I’ve explained the minimum points you should hold in mind when scalping USD/JPY.
