【3/13 USD/JPY Scalping Points】
Good work today! Now, let's do USD/JPY scalping again tonight!
First, the overview for the Tokyo session today.
Currently, USD/JPY is around 159.40. This morning USD/JPY started around 159.30, but during the Tokyo session, in response to hard-line remarks from Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, dollar buying has been dominant.
Just after 13:30 Japan time, it rose to around 159.70 (today’s Asia high) after hitting the stop near 159.50.
However, since it has reached the January Japan-U.S. cooperation rate check level, there is a broad sense of intervention caution, and USD/JPY softened, likely handing over to the overseas session at around the morning level.
By the way, earlier President Trump translated rather aggressively as, “Watch what happens to this crazy scum (Iran) today.”
Now, the points for tonight’s USD/JPY scalping.
● Movements around the London market open
● Movements after the release of US Q4 GDP, personal income, and durable goods orders
● Movements around the New York market open (Dow opens at 22:30)
● Movements after the release of US University of Michigan Consumer Sentiment Index and JOLTS job openings
—–
Other notes…
・Be attentive to headlines related to Middle East developments
・Be attentive to headlines related to BoJ currency intervention
—–
Tonight’s “1-minute scalping” will target moves around each market opening plus the moves after the US data releases at 21:30 (Q4 GDP, personal income, durable goods orders) and 23:00 (UMich Consumer Sentiment, JOLTS). For users of the “1-minute Scalping Club,” handling according to the theory should be fine. Also, today as well, headlines related to Middle East developments require caution.
Also, the “15-minute scalping” which is short-only is in a trend where dollar buys are likely due to Middle East tensions, but due to intervention caution there is a high possibility of position adjustments driven by weekend effects, so trying it is worth considering. The setup would be favorable if you can sell around the mid-159 yen level.
Now, the overseas session is about to start!
Because scalping targets small profit margins, one might think there are 24-hour opportunities, but that is not the case. By targeting times with relatively high volatility, you can significantly reduce the difficulty of trading.
The time windows I target are around the London market open and around the New York market open.
・London market open time (14:00-16:00 US daylight time / 13:00-15:00 US standard time)
・New York market open time (22:00-24:00 US daylight time / 23:00-01:00 US standard time)
Right after US data/events are announced, volatility rises and there are many chances. However, in the first few minutes after the release, the spread can widen, so the rule is to enter only after it returns to the normal spread.
Always check the US data/event schedule in advance. Knowing the times when opportunities will come allows you to accumulate profits more efficiently.
Also, avoid positioning right before US data/events. If you go against it, you’ll be in trouble in an instant, with your stop-out line reached quickly. Carelessness is not acceptable, absolutely.
US data/event schedules can be checked on the websites of each brokerage or FX provider.
Of course, there are many other points, but I’ve explained the minimum points you should hold when scalping USD/JPY.
