Lesson 9: The Three Elements of Reversal, "Momentum": Why RCI Can't Win by "Following the Textbook"

We have delved deeply into the concept of the “wall.” However, even with a solid wall, if you go contrarian when there is momentum to break through, what awaits is ruin. From today, we enter the world of reversal3 elements. The strongest weapon to visualize the market’s “temperature” is 2— the momentum (the world of “momentum”RCIRCI) —.

■ Max’s history: Japanese stocks, futures, andFX.RCI over20 years

 My formalRCI research started with Japanese stocks. At first I attempted contrarian trading with “1 book ofRCI, but it yielded no profits. Later, using “3 books ofRCI” in the futures market, I began to achieve results.

FX became the main focus, andRCI’s number of books increased from3 to4,6, and finally10. In the process, I witnessed a remarkable phenomenon. As the number of books increased, the market’s “uncertainty” vanished, and the question of “where the momentum is now” began to show through as clearly as an X-ray image.

 

■The Unsung Truths of RCI Not Taught in Textbooks

 When you open the internet or books, you’ll find explanations like “buy when RCI crosses the Golden Cross in the -80% zone.” However, I can state with certainty: no one is succeeding by following that exactly.

Why? Because the essence of RCI lies not in the numbers (the height) but in the way the three-book line forms a shape and angle, and the passage of time. Ignoring these and chasing only the numbers is like driving while only reading the speedometer.

 

■Judging the effectiveness in modern markets

RCI can be the strongest weapon depending on how you use it. However, the number of books you use completely changes your approach to trading.4 The world seen with four books differs from the world seen with ten books, in terms of the nature of the waves you should capture.
