■What is the barrier in trend-following?
Usually, a barrier is thought of as something that bounces the price, but in trend-following, it refers to“the boundary that, once broken, accelerates quickly”. When the price decisively breaks through the Bollinger Band’s±2σ, a strong consensus forms there. The essence of trend-following is to target the exact moment when that momentum barrier is breached.
■Judging the effectiveness in modern markets
This trend-following logic remains extremely effective today. However, there is a caveat. The Bollinger Band trend-following is “profit is entirely dependent on market volatility.” If you apply this logic in a market with no movement, you’ll get punished. Therefore, an autonomous perspective that reads the market environment is indispensable.
