【2/20 USD/JPY Scalping Points】
Good job everyone! Let’s dive into USD/JPY scalping again tonight!
First, here is today's Tokyo-time market overview.
Currently, USD/JPY is around the 155.35 level. This morning it started around 155.00, but during Tokyo time the movement has been slightly dollar-strength and yen-weakness in favor.
This week, hawkish messages from the US FOMC minutes and USD officials, expectations for earlier rate cuts receded, and with Prime Minister Suga’s revival of “responsible fiscal policy,” the week saw yen weaken from the 152s to the 155s. That trend is continuing.
From the morning level, about 35 pips higher, it looks set to hand over to the overseas session.
Now, here are the points for tonight’s USD/JPY scalping.
● Movement near the London market open around 17:00
● Movement after the US Personal Income and Q4 2023 GDP releases at around 22:30
● Movement around the New York market open (Dow opens at 23:30)
● Movement after the US Manufacturing PMI release at 23:45
● Movement after the US University of Michigan Consumer Confidence Index and New Home Sales releases at 24:00

Other notes…
• Given the week’s dollar strength and yen weakness, expect some weekend profit-taking sales.

Tonight’s “1-minute scalping” will target moves around each market open, plus the 22:30 US Personal Income and Q4 GDP, 23:45 PMI, and 24:00 UMich Confidence and New Home Sales releases. For “1-minute scalping club” users, sticking to the theory should be fine. Since the US indicator schedule is tight, please check in advance.
Also, the short-only “15-minute scalping” strategy may be worth attempting, given this week’s dollar strength and yen weakness and anticipated weekend profit-taking. The entry point would be when you can sell near the mid-155s, perhaps.
Thank you for your cooperation tonight!
Scalping tends to be perceived as having small profit margins with 24-hour opportunities, but that is not the case. By targeting periods with sufficiently high volatility, you can significantly reduce the difficulty of trading.
The times I target are around the London market open and the New York market open.
・London market open time (US daylight saving time 16:00– / US standard time 17:00–)
・New York market open time (US daylight saving time 22:00– / US standard time 23:00–)
Even immediately after US indicator or event releases, volatility increases and opportunities arise. However, in the first few minutes after the release, spreads can widen, so always enter after spreads return to normal levels.
Please be sure to check the US indicators and events schedule in advance. Knowing the times when opportunities come can help you accumulate profits efficiently.
Also, absolutely avoid positioning immediately before US indicators or events. If you go against the trend, you’ll be thoroughly punished. Don’t make careless mistakes, ever.
The US indicator and event schedules can be checked on each brokerage or FX broker’s website.
Of course there are many other points, but I’ve covered the essential points to keep in mind when scalping USD/JPY.
