【2/18 USD/JPY Scalping Points】
Thank you for your hard work! Alright, let's do USD/JPY scalping again tonight!
First, a summary of Tokyo time today.
Currently, USD/JPY is around 153.45. This morning it started around 153.20, but during Tokyo time, after President Trump announced that the first tranche of U.S. investment in Japan is 550 billion dollars, the flow became dollar-buying and yen-selling.
Around 11:00 Japan time, it rose to around 153.70, but thereafter it has been pushed down somewhat by profit-taking.
From the morning level, about 25 pips higher, it looks like it will hand over to overseas time.
Now, the points for tonight’s USD/JPY scalping.
● Movements near 17:00 when the London market opens
● Movements after the release of U.S. housing starts and durable goods orders at 22:30
● Movements near the New York market open (Dow opens at 23:30)
● Movements after the release of the U.S. FOMC minutes at 28:00

Other notes…
・First tranche of U.S. investment in Japan is 550 billion dollars; its market impact is limited

Tonight’s “1-minute chart scalping” will target moves around each market open, plus moves after 22:30 (U.S. housing starts and durable goods orders) and 28:00 (FOMC minutes). For users of the “1-minute scalping club,” if you follow the theory, there should be no problem, but since the FOMC comes with a late-night component, please stay awake if possible.
Also, the “15-minute scalping” which is short-only may be considered; although Trump’s announcement has supported USD/JPY, the market impact is limited, so it’s worth considering. The entry point would be when you can sell around the mid-153 level.
Now, international time is about to begin!
Scalping tends to attract the idea that you can make small profits all the time because there are 24-hour opportunities, but that is not the case. By targeting periods with higher volatility, you can significantly reduce the difficulty of trading.
The time periods I target are around the London market open and the New York market open.
・London market open time (GMT/UTC: during US daylight time 16:00– / during US standard time 17:00–)
・New York market open time (during US daylight time 22:00– / during US standard time 23:00–)
Even after U.S. indicators and events are released, volatility tends to rise and opportunities increase. However, in the minutes immediately after the release, spreads can widen, so the rule is to enter only after they return to normal spreads.
Please always check the U.S. indicators and event schedule in advance. Knowing the times when opportunities will arise helps you accumulate profits efficiently.
Also, please absolutely avoid positioning right before U.S. indicators or events are released. If you take a position against the trend, you’ll be in trouble in an instant. Careless mistakes are not acceptable.
U.S. indicators and event schedules can be checked on the websites of each brokerage and FX provider.
Of course there are many other points as well, but I’ve explained the minimum points you should keep in mind when scalping USD/JPY.
