“East Asia Economy Online column currently published” A lively FX investor born in 1938 (Showa 13)
Good morning, this is Matsushita.
Yesterday, I gave a seminar for FX investors.
In the seminar, I spoke for four hours,
over back-to-back two weeks—last week and this week.
This marked the start of my lectures in 2017. (laughs)
In this seminar, at every venue,
we held a social gathering for volunteers who wished to join.
At yesterday’s social gathering with FX investors,
a man who seemed especially energetic and enjoyed investing
was there, so
“Excuse me, may I ask your age?”
I asked him his age.
The man replied immediately,
“I was born in Showa 13.”
Everyone who attended the social gathering
broke into expressions of surprise.
I said,
“You’re young-looking—hardly seems that old.”
and conveyed that to him.
I was born in Showa 42,
my father in Showa 16, my mother in Showa 15, so
I could immediately tell this person’s age.
He is 78 years old, 29 years my senior.
His complexion and expression did not look that elderly at all,
and he appeared easily more than 10 years younger.
More than anything, he was energetic and seemed to be enjoying himself.
That gentleman is said to be participating in both of my programs—FX and stocks—
and
“What I say about the primary cycle start tends to be
quite accurate, you know.
If you bought only that, you’d be profitable.”
he laughed.
Seeing his enjoyment,
I asked,
“Is investing fun for you?”
“It’s fun—it's also great for preventing forgetfulness.”
he laughed.
I also said,
“That’s wonderful. Please enjoy it and
make solid profits.”
and we shared some delicious drinks.
Through the Internet, I have taught over 30,000 investors,
and the seminars and schools I’ve held have brought me to more than 10,000 investors in person.
Among them are many who are over 80 years old and still lively,
enjoying investing.
Moreover, these healthy, active people often make surprising profits,
Seeing people invest with such vigor and enjoyment
and,
I wonder if I can enjoy it for another 30 years too,
and I feel excited.
Around us, there are people who, even in old age, are
so energetic and enjoy investing
to a great extent.
And sometimes they make surprisingly large profits.
When you see them with their grandchildren,
they are ordinary, kind grandparents,
and they are individual investors who are achieving remarkable profits.
Those grandparents,
from their grandchildren’s perspective, are the “super cool”
grandfathers and grandmothers.
You should also aim to be such an investor, and
definitely do your best.
Investing happily and energetically to prevent forgetfulness,
and to achieve solid profits.
Let’s work together toward such a cool retirement!
