《東洋経済ONLINEでコラム掲載中》 You may think you understand, but you actually don’t.
Good morning, I’m Matsushita.
In the seminar I spoke at the other day,
I incorporated the workshop-style format we have been conducting in recent years
and exchanged various opinions with the participants.
Among them, I had a sudden question,
so I threw one question at the participants from me.
That question was,
“How can you make a profit in stock investing?”
For FX and commodity market investors,
please replace the stock investing part of the above question
with FX or commodity investing and think about it.
Now, let’s take one minute here. (laughs)

On the day, we asked participants for opinions at random.
By adhering to the rules, to buy and sell.
Go with the trend.
Manage funds.
Many opinions came up, and the most plausible
answer seemed to be… yet somehow, I felt I understood it and I didn’t
Profits in investing are actually simpler than that.
1. Buy low and sell high
And one more
2. Buy high, and sell when it goes even higher
Actually, making a profit in investing is only these two methods above,
and this is quite straightforward, isn’t it?
When people study a little and gain knowledge,
they tend to pile up complicated-sounding terms
and feel as if they understand.
However, if you listen carefully,
you don’t understand the important things.
Think of making profits in a simple way,
and try to express it in your own words.
If you can’t explain things clearly,
it means you don’t understand or haven’t grasped them.
How can you increase profits in investing?
How can you put it into practice?
Think with your head,
and try to express it in your own words.
Be sure to write it down on paper at this time.
Otherwise you’ll fall back into the same pattern,
and end up not really understanding.
Matsushita Makoto knows the two ways to increase profits written above
as 1 and 2.
As I always tell you.
1 is called “counter-trend” or “buy at a turning point,”
2 is called “following the trend” or “buy at a continuation point.”
I have been explaining the same thing in plain terms for over 10 years.
This is because I understand it.
Because I understand it.
Because I can put it into practice.
“Feeling like you understand but not actually understanding.”
Most investors are in this state, so
let’s deepen our learning from there and progress to a truly understood state
Always aim to be able to explain things in clear, understandable terms.
