【1/14 USD/JPY Scalping Points】
Thanks for your hard work! Now, let’s do USD/JPY scalping again tonight!
First, here is today’s Tokyo time overview.
Currently, USD/JPY is around 159.30. The pair started this morning around 159.10, but during Tokyo time the yen weakness continued on the backdrop of news of the House of Representatives dissolution and the general election.
Around 10:30 AM Japan time it rose to around 159.45 (Asian high).
The US may attack Iran after Venezuela, which might suggest risk-off yen buying, but this time the yen is not being chosen as a risk-off currency, it seems.
From the morning level, about 20 pips higher, it seems it will hand over to overseas time.
It looks like the strongest yen-weakness restraint statements and rate-check news are about to come out. It will temporarily drop, but aside from actual currency intervention, it may be a point where buyers are encouraged.
Now, the points for this evening’s USD/JPY scalping.
● Movement around 17:00 London market open
● Movement after the release of US Producer Price Index and US Retail Sales at 22:30
● Movement around the New York market open (Dow opens at 23:30)
● Movement after the release of US Existing Home Sales at 24:00
——
Other notes..
・Watch for statements from US officials
・Be aware of the strongest yen-weakness restraint statements and rate-check news
——
Tonight’s “1-minute chart scalping” will target moves around each market open, plus moves after 22:30 (US PPI and US Retail Sales) and 24:00 (US Existing Home Sales). For users of the “1-minute scalping club,” following the theory should be fine. Although we are in a risk of intervention, if there’s a buying opportunity tonight, I plan to take positions. Hopefully won’t be hit..
Also, the short-only “15-minute scalping” is continuing its yen-weakness trend due to the dissolution of the House and general election news, so today we will not push too hard. Tonight I’d like to focus on the “1-minute scalping.”
Now the overseas time will start shortly!
Scalping tends to be thought of as having small profit targets, so people assume there are 24-hour opportunities, but that’s not the case. Targeting times with relatively higher volatility significantly lowers the difficulty of trading.
The times I target are around the London market open and around the New York market open.
・London market open time (US summer time 16:00– / US standard time 17:00–)
・New York market open time (US summer time 22:00– / US standard time 23:00–)
Even immediately after US data or events, volatility increases and opportunities are plentiful. However, in the first few minutes after the release, spreads may widen, so the rule is to always wait for spreads to return to normal before taking positions.
Please always check the US indicators/events schedule in advance. By knowing the times when opportunities come, you can efficiently accumulate profits.
Also, positioning just before US indicators/events should be avoided at all costs. If you move against it, you could be wiped out in an instant. Careless mistakes are not allowed, absolutely.
US indicators/events schedules can be checked on the websites of each securities company or FX broker.
Of course, there are many other points besides the three above, but I’ve talked about the minimum essential points to keep in mind when scalping USD/JPY.
