【12/10 USD/JPY Scalping Points】
Good work everyone! Alright, let’s do USD/JPY scalping again tonight!
First, a recap of today’s Tokyo session.
Currently USD/JPY is around 156.60. The pair started this morning around 156.80, but during Tokyo hours there seems to be some corrective selling ahead of tonight’s US FOMC.
Perhaps influenced by Governor Ueda’s remark that “Japan’s economy has withstood the impact of US tariffs,” raising expectations for a possible BOJ rate hike next week.
From the morning level, it looks like about 20 pips lower as we hand over to the overseas session.
However, the market has largely priced in tonight’s US FOMC rate cut and next week’s BOJ rate hike. If tonight’s US FOMC rate cut is a hawkish cut supported by multiple members, USD/JPY could jump, conversely.
Now, the points for USD/JPY scalping tonight.
● Movement near the London open around 17:00
● Movement near the New York open around 23:00 (Dow opens at 23:30)
● Movement after 28:00 “US FOMC policy rate & statement release”
● Movement after 28:30 “Powell press conference”
—–
● Be mindful of headlines related to US/Japan policy rates
Tonight’s “1-minute scalping” will target moves around market openings plus after the 28:00 US FOMC policy rate & statement release and after the 28:30 Powell press conference. For users of the “1-minute scalping club,” handling as per theory should be fine. The issue would be whether you can stay up… I plan to stay awake though...
Also, the “15-minute scalping” for short-term trading is not forcing trades today, as last night’s “US JOLTS job openings” were strong, driving market sentiment toward USD strength and JPY weakness. So today, don’t overdo it. I’ll focus on the “1-minute scalping.”
Now, overseas session is about to start!
Scalping targets small profit margins, so one might think there are 24-hour opportunities, but that’s not the case. By targeting periods with relatively higher volatility, you can significantly reduce trading difficulty.
The timeframes I’m aiming for are near the London open and near the New York open.
・London open time (DST 16:00 / Standard Time 17:00)
・New York open time (DST 22:00 / Standard Time 23:00)
Even immediately after US indicators/events, volatility rises and opportunities increase. However, in the minutes right after the announcement, spreads can widen, so the rule is to act only after they return to normal spreads.
Please be sure to check the US indicators/events schedule in advance. Knowing when opportunities come allows you to accumulate profits efficiently.
Also, absolutely avoid positioning just before US indicators/events. If you move against you, there’s no help. You can be taken to the stop-out in an instant. Carelessness is not acceptable, absolutely not.
US indicators/events schedules can be checked on the websites of each brokerage/FX provider.
Of course there are many other points, but I’ve talked about the minimum points you should keep in mind when scalping USD/JPY.
