[12/8 Dollar-Yen Scalping Points]
Thank you for your hard work! Now, let's do some Dollar-Yen scalping again tonight!
First, let's start with today's Tokyo time overview.
Currently, the USD/JPY is around 155.15. This morning it started around 155.20, but during Tokyo time it dropped to around 154.90 in the morning; after the decline stalled, it recovered back to the morning level.
This week, a rate cut is the market’s main scenario for the FOMC, and a rate hike is anticipated at the Bank of Japan policy meeting next week, but it seems largely priced in, and USD/JPY is not falling easily. It looks like it will probably hand off to international markets around the morning level.
With the narrowing of the U.S.-Japan interest rate differential, attention is on how far the price can move lower from here.
Now, here are tonight's USD/JPY scalping points.
● Movements around the 17:00 London market open
● Movements around the 23:00 New York market open (Dow opens at 23:30)
—–
● Be cautious of headlines related to U.S.-Japan policy rates
Tonight's “1-minute scalping” has no major U.S. indicators or events scheduled, so the moves around market opens may be the key targets. For users of the “1-minute scalping club,” handling according to theory should be fine.
Also, the “15-minute scalping” which focuses on shorts may be worth trying as the U.S.-Japan rate differential narrows and upside pressure is heavy. The entry point would be when you can set up a selling position around the 155 yen level.
With that, overseas market hours are about to begin!
Because scalping targets small profit margins, people often think there are 24 hours of opportunities, but that is not the case. By targeting times with relatively high volatility, you can significantly reduce the difficulty of trading.
The times I target are around the London market open and the New York market open.
・London market open time (16:00 US daylight time / 17:00 US standard time)
・New York market open time (22:00 US daylight time / 23:00 US standard time)
Immediately after U.S. indicators/events are released, volatility rises and opportunities increase. However, in the minutes right after the release, spreads may widen, so the rule is to enter after they return to normal spreads.
Please always check the U.S. indicators and events schedule in advance. Knowing when opportunities will come helps you accumulate profits efficiently.
Also, absolutely avoid positioning just before U.S. indicators/events release. If you go against the trend, you’ll be devastated. You could be taken to your loss limit in an instant. Carelessness is not allowed, absolutely.
The U.S. indicators and events schedule can be checked on each broker’s website, etc.
Of course, besides the three points above there are other factors, but I’ve discussed the essential points to keep in mind when scalping USD/JPY.
