[10/30 USD/JPY Scalping Points]
Good work today! Alright, let's do USD/JPY scalping again tonight!
First, the overview of Tokyo time today.
Currently, USD/JPY is around 152.95. This morning the pair started around 152.65, but in the early Tokyo session there was a move to buy the yen as markets waited for the Bank of Japan Monetary Policy Summary Meeting. After dropping to around 152.15 after 12:00 Japan time, once the decision to hold rates was announced, including two dissenting votes, yen selling broadened.
Later, at 15:30, there will be a press conference by BOJ Governor Ueda, but for now the US FOMC and BOJ meetings are behind us.
From the morning levels, it seems the pair will rise about 0.30 yen as we move into overseas hours. Also, there was a US-China summit, but market reaction was almost non-existent for what was the first face-to-face meeting in six years.
Now, the USD/JPY scalping points for tonight.
• Movements near the London market open
• Movements near the New York market open (Dow open at 22:30)
—–
• Be cautious of headlines related to the new administration in the high-field market
• Be cautious of headlines related to US government shutdown
Tonight's "1-minute scalp" has no major US indicators or events scheduled, so it seems the key targets will be around market opens. For "1-minute scalp club" users, handling as per theory should be fine. Also, as usual, the planned release of US initial jobless claims and US quarterly GDP today has been postponed.
As for the short-only "15-minute scalp," this will wait for Governor Ueda's press conference, but it may be worth targeting carefully around the 153 yen level. Depending on the press conference, if we move well above 153, we may give up...
Now we are about to begin overseas time!
Scalping tends to be thought of as having small profit targets and 24-hour opportunities, but that's not the case. By aiming for periods with relatively high volatility, you can significantly reduce the difficulty of trading.
The time windows I target are near the London market open and near the New York market open.
• London market open time (US daylight saving time 16:00 / US standard time 17:00)
• New York market open time (US daylight saving time 22:00 / US standard time 23:00)
Even immediately after US indicators/events are announced, volatility stays high and opportunities are plentiful. However, in the minutes right after the release, spreads can widen, so the rule is to enter only after spreads revert to normal.
Always check the US indicators/events schedule in advance. By knowing roughly when opportunities will come, you can efficiently accumulate profits.
Also, avoid positioning immediately before US indicators/events. If you position against the trend, you may be doomed. You can end up at your stop loss in an instant. Careless mistakes are not acceptable, never.
US indicators/events schedules can be checked on each securities company's or FX broker's website, etc.
Of course, there are other points as well, but I’ve talked about the essential points you should keep in mind when scalping USD/JPY.
