[10/28 Dollar-Yen Scalping Points]
Good work everyone! Alright, let's do dollar/yen scalping again tonight!
First, here is today's Tokyo session overview.
The current USD/JPY is around 151.85. This morning it started around 152.85, but during Tokyo time the U.S. Treasury’s report on the U.S.-Japan finance ministers’ meeting was released, which accelerated yen buying. In the past shortly after 14:00 Japan time, the day’s low of 151.75 was reached.
From the morning levels, about a one-yen drop, it seems to hand over to the overseas session. It’s nearly at Tokyo’s low.
Will the yen’s weakness trend tied to the Kishida administration settle for now?
Now, the points for tonight’s USD/JPY scalping.
● Movements around the London market open (~16:00 US夏時間 / ~17:00 US冬時間)
● Movements around the New York market open (Dow opens at 23:30 local time)
● Movements after the U.S. Consumer Confidence Index release
—–
● Be cautious of headlines related to the Kishida new administration
● Be cautious of headlines related to possible U.S. government shutdown
Tonight’s “1-minute chart scalping” will likely target movements around each market open plus the move after the 23:00 U.S. Consumer Confidence Index release. For users of the “1-minute scalping club,” handling as per theory should be fine.
Also, the “15-minute scalping” focused on shorts may have opportunities as comments from the U.S. Treasury Secretary Wilbur Ross? (Note: The original says “米ベッセント財務長官,” which seems to be a mistaken transcription; likely refers to a U.S. Treasury Secretary such as Janet Yellen or similar) could be viewed as pressing the BOJ for rate hikes, leading to yen buying. If there’s a bit of pullback, we’ll look to sell around the mid-152 range.
Now, the overseas session is about to start!
Because scalping aims for small profit targets, it’s easy to think there are 24-hour opportunities, but that isn’t the case. Focusing on time periods with higher volatility significantly lowers the difficulty of trading.
The times I target are around the London market open and around the New York market open.
・London market open time (US DST 16:00– / US standard time 17:00–)
・New York market open time (US DST 22:00– / US standard time 23:00–)
Even immediately after U.S. indicators/events are announced, volatility increases and opportunities arise. However, in the first few minutes after the announcement, spreads can widen, so the rule is to enter only after spreads return to normal.
Always check the U.S. indicators/events schedule in advance. Knowing the times when opportunities appear allows you to accumulate profits efficiently.
Also, absolutely avoid positioning just before U.S. indicators/events are released. If you go against the trend, you’ll get crushed. Carelessness is not acceptable, absolutely not.
U.S. indicators/events schedules can be checked on the websites of each brokerage and FX broker.
Of course, there are many other points beyond the three above, but I’ve discussed the essential points you should have when scalping USD/JPY.
