Tackling drought issues with blockchain and IoT: A joint IBM-led project moves to solve water problems
Utilizing Blockchain to Address Drought Problems
In California, USA, major computer-related companies including IBM are collaborating to use blockchain and IoT (Internet of Things) to combat drought.
A press release released on February 8 announced that IBM Research and SweetSense, a provider of sensor technology, will partner with The Freshwater Trust (TFT), a nonprofit organization, and the University of Colorado Boulder.
The stated goal is to sustainably manage groundwater use in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta region in northern California by leveraging blockchain and IoT technologies.
This area is said to be “one of the largest and most precarious groundwater basins in North America,” and sustainable groundwater management is required.
