[10/17 Dollar/Yen Scalping Points]
Thank you for your hard work! Alright, let's do Dollar/Yen scalping again tonight!
First, the overview of Tokyo time today.
Currently the Dollar/Yen is around 149.95. This morning it started around 150.35, but during Tokyo time the dollar selling was dominant, and before 13:00 Japan time it dropped to a day’s low around 159.90.
Factors include US-China trade friction, prolonged US government shutdown, expectations of a large rate cut by the Fed this year, and the newly emerging concerns about US regional banks. It’s a parade of dollar-selling factors. It might drop a bit more during end-of-week position adjustments.
From the morning level, about a 40-pip drop would hand over to the overseas session. It’s almost within the day’s Tokyo low range.
Now, the points for tonight’s Dollar/Yen scalping.
● Movements near the 16:00 London market open
● Movements near the 22:00 New York market open (Dow opens at 22:30)
———
● Watch headlines related to the Prime Minister appointment
● Watch headlines related to the US government shutdown
● Watch statements from US officials
Tonight’s "1-minute chart scalping" has no major US indicators or events scheduled, and no special market catalysts, so the moves around market opens in each session will be the targets. For users of the "1-Minute Scalping Club", handling them in line with the theory should be fine. Due to the US government shutdown, many indicators are postponed, and recent New York markets have been rather quiet.
Also, for those who specialize in short-term scalping on the 15-minute chart, if dollar selling pressure remains strong and there’s risk-averse end-of-week position adjustments, there could be opportunities. If we wait for a small rebound and can sell in the upper 150s early, we’ll enter.
Now the overseas session is about to start!
Because scalping targets small profit margins, it might seem like there are 24-hour opportunities, but that’s not the case. Targeting periods with relatively high volatility can significantly reduce trading difficulty.
The time I’m aiming for is near the London market open and near the New York market open.
・London market open time (US daylight saving time 16:00~ / US standard time 17:00~)
・New York market open time (US daylight saving time 22:00~ / US standard time 23:00~)
Even immediately after US data or events, volatility remains high and opportunities abound. However, in the first few minutes after the announcement, the spread may widen, so the rule is to enter only after it returns to the normal spread.
Always check the US data and event schedule in advance. Knowing when opportunities will come helps you accumulate profits efficiently.
Also, positioning immediately before US data or event releases should be avoided at all costs. If you go against it, there’s little you can do. You can be taken to the stop-out level in an instant. Careless mistakes are not acceptable, absolutely not.
US data and event schedules can be checked on the websites of brokerage firms and FX brokers.
Of course, there are other points beyond the three above, but I’ve shared the essential points to keep in mind when scalping USD/JPY.
