Last weekend there was shocking news that Komeito would leave the ruling coalition, but as for the market reaction, the yen appreciated.
At this stage it has somewhat recovered, but from when it reached around 153 yen, it has fallen by nearly 2 yen.
In a case where Ms. Takai does not become prime minister, it is unlikely to see a rise in stocks or a depreciation of the yen, so it is thought to be a yen appreciation.
(Additionally, there will likely be increased tariffs on China by President Trump over the weekend.)
Going forward, at least until who will be the Japanese prime minister is confirmed, the range will probably stay in a comfortable range, but
as soon as someone is confirmed, the dollar/yen will likely move sharply again.
In such cases, I feel it might be better not to touch it too much.
Let’s watch carefully.
