【10/8 Dollar/Yen Scalping Points】
Thank you for your hard work! Alright, let's run through dollar/yen scalping again tonight!
First, here is today's Tokyo time overview.
Currently, the USD/JPY is around 152.30 yen. This morning it started around 151.90 yen, but during Tokyo time it easily jumped into the 152 yen range. The market is continuing to sell the yen on prospects of a higher rate and the Bank of Japan’s rate hike expectations fading. Also, dollar buying is coming in as U.S. rate-cut expectations wane.
From the morning level, about a 40-pip rise to hand over to the overseas session seems likely. I’d like to avoid a pattern where Tokyo moves and overseas stalls...
Now, here are tonight’s USD/JPY scalping points.
● Movements around the London market open at 16:00
● Movements around the New York market open (Dow opens at 22:30)
—–
● Be careful of headlines related to U.S. government shutdown
● Be careful of headlines related to the new LDP president Takashi (Takaichi) (or related to Takashi as the LDP's new president) [Note: 原文 says 高市自民党新総裁; Takai? Possibly "Takaichi" was a former LDP candidate; translation kept generic]
● Be careful of headlines related to yen weakness restraint
Tonight’s “1-minute chart scalping” will be focused around the open of each market since there are no major U.S. indicators or events scheduled, so the moves near market opens will be the targets. For users of the “1-minute scalping club,” handling as per theory should be fine. Some caution is needed around scheduled U.S. official remarks timing. Also at 27:00 the FOMC minutes release is coming up, and if I can stay awake I’ll target it. I plan to stay up…
As for the short-only “15-minute chart scalping,” with the Takai market continuation and fading expectations of a BoJ rate hike, the yen selling trend continues, so today I won’t push too hard. Some profit-taking may occur, but… it’s hard to sell. It’s wiser to refrain from entering.
Now, overseas time will start soon!
Because scalping aims for small profit margins, one might think there are 24-hour opportunities, but that’s not the case. Targeting times with relatively high volatility greatly reduces trading difficulty.
The times I’m aiming for are around the London market open and around the New York market open.
・London market open time (U.S. daylight saving time around 16:00 / U.S. standard time around 17:00)
・New York market open time (U.S. daylight saving time around 22:00 / U.S. standard time around 23:00)
Even right after U.S. indicators and events are released, volatility rises and there are many chances. However, in the few minutes after the release, spreads can widen, so the rule is to always re-enter after returning to the normal spread.
Please check the U.S. indicators and events schedule in advance. Knowing when chances will come helps you accumulate profits efficiently.
Also, absolutely avoid positioning immediately before U.S. indicators/events. If you move against it, you’ll be wiped out in an instant. Carelessness is not acceptable, absolutely.
The schedule for U.S. indicators and events can be checked on the websites of each brokerage and FX broker.
Of course, there are many other points, but I’ve covered the minimum points you should keep in mind when scalping USD/JPY.
