【Points for USD/JPY scalping on 10/6】
Thank you for your hard work! Now, let's do USD/JPY scalping again tonight!
First, from today’s Tokyo time overview.
Currently USD/JPY is around 150.05. This morning it started around 149.35, about a 2-yen gap up, but during Tokyo time it was moving toward the important level of 150.
Following the results of the weekend Liberal Democratic Party leadership election, the yen is broadly weakening.
From the early levels, it looks set to rise about 70 pips as we move into overseas hours. The factors behind the broad yen weakness are likely that Ms. Takai, the new LDP leader, is cautious on rate hikes and that fiscal stimulus remains the policy.
However! When you mention 150 yen, that is the intervention level from autumn 2022. The bias is still upward fundamentally, but it’s a bit scary because there may be yen-weakness warnings from the US.
Now, the points for tonight’s USD/JPY scalping.
● Movements around the London market open at 16:00
● Movements around the New York market open (Dow opens at 22:30)
———
● Be mindful of headlines related to the US government shutdown
● Be mindful of headlines related to the new LDP leader Takai
● Be mindful of headlines related to yen weakness warnings
Tonight’s “1-minute chart scalping” offers no major US indicators or events, so the key points are likely to be movements near each market open. For users of the “1-minute Scalping Club,” proceed according to theory and you should be fine.
Also, for the short-only “15-minute scalping,” given the yen weakness trend after the weekend LDP leadership election results, today you should not force it. It would be wiser to refrain from entries.
Now, International time is about to begin!
Because the profit per trade in scalping is small, it’s easy to think there are 24-hour opportunities, but that’s not the case. Targeting periods with relatively high volatility can dramatically reduce the difficulty of trading.
The time periods I target are around the London market open and around the New York market open.
・London market open time (16:00 during US daylight time / 17:00 during US standard time)
・New York market open time (22:00 during US daylight time / 23:00 during US standard time)
Even immediately after US indicators or events are released, volatility increases and opportunities are plentiful. However, in the minutes right after the release, spreads can widen, so the rule is to enter after they return to normal spreads.
Please always check the US indicators and event schedule in advance. Knowing the times when opportunities will arise allows you to efficiently accumulate profits.
Also, absolutely avoid positioning immediately before US indicators or events. If you go against the trend, it can be catastrophic. You can be taken to the stop-out level in an instant. Careless mistakes are not acceptable, absolutely not.
The schedule for US indicators and events can be checked on the websites of each securities or FX company.
Of course, there are many other points besides the three above, but I’ve explained the essential points you should keep in mind when scalping USD/JPY.
