What is trader nao? (Running a company, leaving the corporate world, investing...)
| First, may I ask nao about your background up to now? |

| Yes, after working for a construction company, I became independent and ran companies in caregiving and real estate. |
| How is the business going? |

| The first six months were tough, but after that, business performance grew smoothly. |
| When did you start investing? |

I started around age 32, parallel to the business. Also, I decided to become a monk and enter the Buddhist world, so I handed the business over to the next generation. |
I see. The altruistic mindset of wanting to share investment success with others also resonates with Buddhism. Have you always dealt with FX, CFDs, and gold in your investing? |

Yes, now I focus on gold alone. I started around 2007, near the subprime mortgage crisis. Back then there weren't many resources, and even searching online for methods was difficult, so I lost about 5 million yen in three months after starting. I stepped away from trading temporarily to focus on running the business and entering monkhood. |
【Turning point】It wasn't drawing lines, but reducing lines.
| You had been away from trading for a while, but when did you resume? |

Yes, I restarted trading about ten years ago. There was information available in 2007, but I was still self-taught, so it was quite challenging.Until then, I used many indicators and drew so many lines that the candlesticks were obscured, but it didn't work. There were many times when my chart on screen seemed to go against me, to the point I thought it might be fake. |
| You must have faced difficulties again after resuming. |

One time, a successful trader told me, “Just make it simpler. It’s hard to see, isn’t it?” From there I limited myself to candles and MA (moving average), and for three months I didn’t trade, spending my days watching charts from morning to night. Then there was a moment when the way the chart looked changed, and I could determine the direction. Looking back now, I think that moment was when the things I had learned finally became a line. |
| That means chart patterns got stuck in your head and your trading results rose as a result, right? |
| GoGoNyan |

| Yes, there were several moments when the chart scene changed; dots became lines, lines became planes, and planes became three-dimensional. |
SMC...? Who was moving the chart?
| After that, you also taught your own trading to others; how was that back then? |
| nao |
| There were opportunities to teach people who contacted me after I posted my trading results on SNS, but it didn’t go well. Trading while usually being alone made it hard to verbalize my trades, and I found my trading became more intuitive than verbalizable. |
| I heard that the keyword SMC (Smart Money Concept) was another turning point. |
| nao |
Yes, I had a method that I had originally established, and when I taught it to others someone said, “Isn’t that SMC?” At that time I didn’t even know the term “SMC,” but after that, by aligning the terminology and theories used in SMC with my own thinking, it became easier to convey to others. |
| What is the main part of SMC? |
| nao |
It is important to understand the thinking and rationale of large investors. This applies not only to SMC but to investing in general, but be mindful of “who is moving the chart?” Some say it’s mass psychology, but in reality it’s the big players like banks and funds. Therefore, if you understand their thinking, you can read the charts. |
Interesting. Understanding the underlying parts and rationale is important. |
Yes, there are wonderful indicators and signal tools on GoGoJungle, but if you don’t understand the behind-the-scenes logic, you might wrongly conclude something like, “This tool is useless after a losing streak.” Conversely, if you understand the logic, you can identify fund management issues and make more informed signal selections. Since flipping tools frequently makes it hard to build trading skill, please focus on mastering at least one thing first. |
In any case, it’s important to focus on one thing first. One of this time’s free gifts is a video understanding the SMC market structure, and please also check nao’s semi-discretionary assistant EA called “tundere.” In the next installment we will delve deeper into SMC and tundere. Nao, thank you very much for today. |
